| (Option 1) An ISI Staff Intern is one who is undergoing structured, practical international student ministry experience and training under the direct supervision of an ISI staff member. Those eligible to apply for staff internship include, 1) individuals who desire a no-risk short internship experience first before deciding on long-term involvement, 2) and individuals with no direct international student ministry experience before, 3) a foreign-born individual eligible to work in the United States. Staff internships are available for 24 months or less, at many of our local ISI locations in cities across the U.S., and in some cases at our ISI Home Office in Colorado Springs. If you have an interest in applying for a staff internship with ISI, the procedures are similar to those used for ISI staff position applications. We hold our Staff Interns to the same standards to which each ISI staff member is held. Your first step will be to fill out the online Ministry Inquiry Form, which ISI will review before contacting you personally. Still interested and want more details? Supervision and Accountability To provide the best experience we can, an ISI staff member’ll provide you leadership and direct supervision. (Staff Internships are only offered in locations where there are existing veteran ISI staff.) You’ll meet with your supervisor on a regular basis for planning sessions and for performance reviews. You’ll be asked to provide a monthly report for accountability as do all ISI staff members. Work Hours and Financial Relationship - Staff Interns may apply to work from 5 to 40 hours per week based on their needs and the approval of their supervisor.
- Staff Interns will be required to raise a ministry salary and expense budget in line with the number of hours worked per month with the approval of their supervisor and Regional Field Director.
Training As a Staff Intern, a specific program unique to you will be designed to afford you the best experience in a specific role, or if desired, in a variety of ISI positions. Your supervisor and local ISI team, along with training support from ISI’s Training team, will offer ongoing training. National and regional training opportunities may range from a practicum or laboratory situations, to ISI’s NSO (New Staff Orientation), to self-directed or coach-driven web-based training modules. Length of Staff Internships - Staff Interns will serve terms of 24 months or less.
- What happens when a staff internship is over? Well, as the previously determined term nears completion, your supervisor and the Home Office staff will be talking to you about alternatives for the future. If both you and ISI feel that the relationship has been a good fit, we will consider you for a full-time or part-time field staff position.
